On this episode of Stay in the Game, Joe Cosgriff welcomes Dr. Cordell Nwokeji of Houston Premier Urology—Texas’s first physician accredited to perform HIFU, pioneering the procedure there in 2016—and patient advocate Jack Sells, CEO/President of Sales Search America, for a thoughtful conversation about focal therapy as an increasingly accepted treatment option for prostate cancer. Sells explains how his career in the medical device industry gave him unusual insight into the treatment landscape and helped him make a well-informed treatment decision. Dr. Nwokeji’s guiding principle is minimizing the “collateral damage” that can accompany treatment, while Sells focused on minimizing the risk of recurrence. Though they approached the decision from different perspectives, both concluded that HIFU with the Sonablate system offered the right balance of effective cancer control and quality of life.
