With GivingTuesday only one week away, we invite you to commit your support to Fans for the Cure. As a nonprofit focused on supporting men and their families as they journey with prostate cancer, we work to encourage men to get tested early and regularly for this complex and oftentimes subtle disease. Through our work, we strive to both educate men and their families and advocate for them at every stage of their diagnosis, treatment, recovery, and survivorship. Below are the key ways we carry out our programs.
Online Men’s Support Group
Welcoming men at all stages of the prostate cancer journey – literally from initial diagnosis, through treatment, recovery, and survivorship – the online Men’s Support Group has become an integral and effective tool for many men as they navigate the challenges of this complex diseases.
Online Women’s Support Group
An online venue for the spouses, partners, and caregivers of men with prostate cancer, our online Women’s Support Group has become a leading source of support and information for women from across the country. The group’s conversations are moderated by Karen Shaffer, whose husband passed after a decade-long fight with the disease.
Medical Referrals
Through our community programs, health events, and local and national outreach, we have established an extensive network of leading urologists, oncologists, and medical professionals with whom we have established relationships and whom we trust with medical referrals. We proactively encourage men to get second or third opinions about their specific case – and then connect them with doctors in all areas of the country for testing, second opinions, and guidance explaining treatment options.
In-person awareness events and health screenings
With medical partners at leading health care institutions like NYU-Langone, NY-Presbyterian, Montefiore, Northwell, Catholic Health, Mercy Hospital and more, we organize and attend in-person educational and information events. These events often including screenings for prostate cancer, administered by medical professionals.
Stay in the Game podcast
