Somewhere between 90% and 95% of prostate cancer diagnoses present with no symptoms at all. The overwhelming majority of men are diagnosed as part of a process that begins with an elevated score on a PSA blood test or a significant increase in a PSA value over the one measured on a previous test.
Warning signs
Most men in early stages of prostate cancer show no symptoms. Among some men there might be elevated PSA test scores or a significant increase in a PSA value over one recorded on a previous test.
When symptoms are present they include:
- Difficulty with urination
- Blood in the urine
- Impotence
- Bone pain in hips, spine and ribs
- Nerve pain, muscle weakness, and numbness in the feet
