“These are really personal topics,” Dr. Joseph Alukal tells us, as he goes into straightforward details about erectile dysfunction and other side effects of prostate cancer that can affect one’s sexual health. And with over 40% of all 40+ year-olds in the U.S. (and 80% of 80+ year-olds) dealing with erectile dysfunction, Dr. Alukal’s clinical practice is a busy one.
Looking forward, he hopes for continuing progress to a more personalized roadmap of prostate cancer treatment that results in “less guesswork and more accuracy” toward the goal of more precise risk stratification. Dr. Alukal also expects the robust information made available via AI and quantum computing to completely revolutionize the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer, possibly within the next 6-8 years.
Dr. Alukal wrapped up by describing The One, Columbia/NYP’s a state-of-the-art center for advanced care located in Westchester County (NY). The One offers over 90 medical specialties, surgery suites, and centers of excellence in one convenient complex. Said Dr. Alukal, “My goal is to have this facility be recognized as the best preventive opportunity there is in men’s healthcare.”
