Catch up on the latest happenings with Fans for the Cure

APRIL 2023

I am excited to share early news of my upcoming travels. I am getting back on the road! As part of Catch for the Cure, I look forward to hopping into my car and jumping on planes to meet up with our community – and to have a catch in your backyard or at your neighborhood park. Get in touch if you want to schedule some face time (or catch time) with me.

Our Online Women's Support Group continues to be a source of meaningful connection, learning, and sharing for women journeying with men facing prostate cancer. Please read on for the schedule of upcoming of group meetings.

Let me draw your attention to our efforts to schedule a number of leading medical professionals for a visit to both of our online support groups. More details about that are below.

With the warmer weather, we have scheduled even more in-person and community events in and around the New York metropolitan area. See below for a selection of some of the events we are supporting in the weeks ahead.

Until next time,

Several months into a more frequent (twice monthly) meeting schedule, the Online Women's Support Group continues to grow, welcoming new members from across the USA. Now, with more than 50 members in the women's support group, the attendance levels of each meeting has steadily climbed over the course of 2023.

The group discussions are honest and open – with the women on the call sharing and supporting each other on the first and third Tuesday of every month at 8:00 PM ET.

The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, May 2. All women are warmly welcome to attend for free. Registration is required.

With his mitt and boxes of new Rawlings baseballs in his car, Ed Randall plans to spend the summer driving (and flying) to screening events, people's homes, baseball fields, and wherever a Catch for the Cure can take place. We will share further details as Ed's travel schedule takes shape.

In the meantime, for more information about getting on the schedule to have a catch with Ed, please write to us at [email protected].

Screenings, Education, and Awareness Events in the Community

Steve Garvey's Legends Podcast Series
Steve Garvey

June is Men's Health Month, and it will also mark the beginning of an annual podcast series hosted by former MLB star and Fans for the Cure's Board Chairman, Steve Garvey. We are delighted to announce that Steve's first of three guests in this series will be the manager of the World Series Champion Houston Astros and Steve's former teammate on the Dodgers, Dusty Baker

Stay tuned for the specific release date of this first episode. It will be in June in connection with our efforts marking Men's Health Month.

Upcoming Guests to Visit Our Online Support Groups
A daily planner

Responsive to the needs of the members of our online support groups – both for men and for women – we are working to coordinate bringing a number of guests to our meetings in the months ahead.

We have tentative plans to welcome a genetic researcher along with a genetic counselor in late June, an expert on men's sexual health in July or early August, and a radiology clinician in September to explain the advantages of MRI-guided radiotherapy.

Pending confirmation of availability dates, the genetic testing session might be a combined presentation to both the Men's and Women's Support Groups.

As always, we will readily share further details as we finalize plans.

MEDICAL REFERRALS:
Get that Second or Third Opinion that You Really Think You Should Get

At Fans for the Cure, we advocate for men to connect with solid, proven doctors who can deliver that sense of "This is the right way forward."

Through our community programs, health events, and local and national outreach, we have established an extensive network of leading urologists, oncologists, and medical professionals with whom we have established relationships and whom we trust with medical referrals. Should you be seeking a medical referral, we are happy to help connect you with doctors in all areas of the country for testing, second opinions, and guidance explaining treatment options.
