As we turn the calendar to May, Fans for the Cure begins one of the most important stretches of our year — six months of mainly outdoor health events in communities and educational, awareness, and screening initiatives at ballparks across the country.
In May, our work will take us to the Yonkers Public Library, into communities in New Jersey, and Comerica Park, where we will join the Detroit Tigers and Karmanos Cancer Institute for their three-day Strike Out Cancer weekend.
We will also be part of Park Avenue Day in Manhattan on May 16, where last year an estimated 5,000 visitors walked the four blocks of vendor booths. Over the course of the day, we engaged in dozens of meaningful conversations with men at all stages of their prostate cancer journeys — exactly the kinds of connections that drives our work forward.
Looking ahead, June is Men's Health Month. We encourage you to visit our website and follow along as our calendar of events continues to grow. So far, the June itinerary has us in Cedar Rapids, Las Vegas, Chicago, Citi Field (June 9), Louisville, Seattle, North Carolina, and several TBDs.
For those planning to be part of the 2026 All-Star Game festivities in Philadelphia, we will be taking part in All-Star Village at the Philadelphia Convention Center from July 11-14.
Finally, my sincere thanks to so many of you who have supported Fans for the Cure with financial contributions. At a time of fiscal uncertainty for organizations like ours — particularly those that rely in part on federal and state support to plan and staff community programs — your generosity makes our work possible.
Thank you for standing with us as we continue to meet men and their families where they are. |

Saturday, May 16 — A Day of Community and Conversation
|
| |
|
Fans for the Cure will be part of a full day of outreach and education on Saturday, May 16, with two important events set to take place in the New York area.
From 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., we will host the First Baptist Church's quarterly Prostate Cancer 101 Seminar at the Yonkers Public Library (1 Larkin Center, Yonkers, NY). Physicians and medical professionals will join us for an informative and accessible session designed to answer questions, provide guidance, and encourage men to take the next step in managing their health.
That same day from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., we will participate in Park Avenue Day in Manhattan, along Park Avenue between 34th and 40th Streets. This well-attended community event draws thousands of visitors each year. At the 2025 event, we engaged all day in impactful and educational conversations that men (and families) told us they found to be of value.
We begin the trip the previous afternoon and evening with Strike Out Cancer in Detroit (see below), making this a three-event weekend focused on meeting men where they are — and making sure they have the information they need. |

Strike Out Cancer Weekend — Detroit
|
| |
|
On Friday, May 15, Fans for the Cure will join the Detroit Tigers and Karmanos Cancer Institute as part of Strike Out Cancer Weekend at Comerica Park, the Tigers’ home in downtown Detroit since 2000.
Friday night — the opening game of the series — will focus on men’s health and other cancers, with Saturday and Sunday dedicated to women’s cancers and pediatric diseases.
Fans for the Cure will be on the lower deck concourse, alongside the Karmanos team, sharing educational materials in English and Spanish and engaging fans in conversation — answering questions and helping men take the next step in understanding their prostate health.
The Karmaros Cancer Institute is an NCI-Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, the only one in southern Michigan and one of only 57 centers of its kind in the United States.
We hope to see you in Detroit and thank the Tigers and Karmanos for their kind invitation to participate in this terrific initiative with them. |

Save the Date — NYU Langone Men’s Health Seminar

| |
|
Mark your calendar to join us on Saturday, June 20 (9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.) for a Men's Health Seminar at NYU Langone Hospital – Long Island in Mineola, New York.
These programs have long been highly informative — once focused primarily on prostate cancer, they have now expanded to include broader aspects of men’s health.
Presentations will be given by physicians, subject matter experts, healthcare advocates, and local athletes.
The seminar will take place in person, conveniently located across from the Mineola train station. We encourage you to join us for a day of education, conversation, and access to leading medical insight.
More details with links to follow on our website and in our May newsletter — but for now, please save the date. |

New York MLB Teams’ Free Screening Dates Announced
|
| |
|
Fans for the Cure is pleased to announce that the annual Mets and Yankees free prostate cancer screenings are officially on the docket for the 2026 MLB season.
The first one to take place will be the Mets screening, scheduled on Tuesday, June 9, when the Mets will play the St. Louis Cardinals at Citi Field. PSA testing (a blood test) will be available to team staff and game-day employees starting at 4 p.m., with ticket holders welcome to get tested when gates open at 5:30 p.m. The location will be inside the Heineken Diamond Lounge on the Excelsior level. The initiative is a collaboration among NewYork-Presbyterian, the Mets, and Fans for the Cure.
The Yankees screening will take place at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday, September 23, before and during the regularly scheduled game between the Yanks and Tampa Bay Rays. As with the Mets timing, staff and employees are welcome to be screened early, while ticket holders are welcome to register once gates open at 5:30. The event is a collaboration among Montefiore Medical Center, the Yankees, the American-Italian Cancer Foundation, and Fans for the Cure.
Ticket vouchers for upcoming games will be distributed by the teams and by Fans for the Cure at both screenings for all men who are tested onsite. Men must be at least 40 years old to qualify for the PSA test. Montefiore urologists, oncologists and other medical professionals will be available adjacent to the Fans for the Cure table to have conversations and answer questions. |
