Happy Halloween is something I will not get to write in one of our monthly newsletters again until….2028. So, I wish you all a happy, fun-filled, and safe October 31st. Although neither is technically part of the Mediterranean Diet, a quick poll of the Fans for the Cure bullpen places Snickers and 3 Musketeers bars at the top of today’s wish list. (I don’t understand Kit Kat bars.)
This afternoon I will be packing a bag and heading off to Chicago. Along with several colleagues and a roomful of the charity’s friends, I will be in the Windy City tomorrow evening to honor Baseball Hall of Famer and community leader, Andre Dawson, as well as Dr. Christopher Gonzalez, one of the earliest members and shapers of our Medical Advisory Board. We have a few slots left for the reception, so if you're in the Chicagoland area and can swing it, please join us. Read below for more details.
We also look forward to marking Veterans Day, Saturday, November 11, with our friends at the Cradle of Aviation Museum (Garden City, NY) and our medical partners at Catholic Health in what is shaping up to be a meaningful way to thank our veterans for their service. We set out the specifics of this event below. All veterans plus one guest each will be admitted to the museum for free on Veterans Day.
With GROW-vember around the corner, I personally invite you to support our awareness and fundraising campaign. Grow your own facial hair or pick up a wacky mustache at your local costume shop. Read on to see how you can get involved with this fun and important awareness effort. |

| |
At the shipping of this newsletter, we can confirm that Ed Randall is en route to Chicago for tomorrow’s event that will honor Hall of Famer and Cubs legend, Andre Dawson, and Dr. Chris Gonzalez, the chairperson of the Urology Department at Loyola Medicine.
Fans for the Cure will celebrate the contributions of these two standout community leaders tomorrow night at 5:30 PM at Smith & Wollensky – right along the river – in Chicago.
There are a handful of tickets still available. So, with the promise of reasonable weather (the forecast calls for a balmy 43º F), friendly people, and the city's best food and drink, come join us. |

It's Almost GROW-vember! Lend Your Support to Our Work. |
| |
It is practically here! GROW-vember is only a few hours away. We are asking you – our friends, colleagues, partners, and supporters – to help raise awareness about prostate cancer and to fundraise in support of our programs by growing or donning facial hair throughout the month of November.
You are invited to grow a mustache. Maybe let the whiskers grow all over your face: beards welcomed too. If real facial hair isn't a thing for you, then stick on a fake mustache and make people aware of why you have decided to do so.
Please join us in making this GROW-vember a success for the entire prostate cancer community. |
| |
P.S. Facial hair is not for everybody. If you are looking to support GROW-vember but do not want anything to do with growing or wearing a mustache or beard, we warmly welcome your donation to our campaign. |

At Fans for the Cure, we advocate for men to connect with solid, proven doctors who can deliver that sense of "This is the right way forward."
Through our community programs, health events, and local and national outreach, we have established an extensive network of leading urologists, oncologists, and medical professionals with whom we have established relationships and whom we trust with medical referrals. Should you be seeking a medical referral, we are happy to help connect you with doctors in all areas of the country for testing, second opinions, and guidance explaining treatment options. |
