Dear Friends,
September is National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. Yet for Fans for the Cure, awareness alone has never been enough.
Our job is to turn awareness into action—to bring reliable information to men and families, make early detection more accessible, and provide support when prostate cancer enters a family's life.
Throughout September, we worked with healthcare and community partners to bring prostate cancer education and PSA screening directly to men. We reached men at ballparks in Buffalo, Richmond, Staten Island, and the Bronx, at community health events in New Jersey, and through a PSA screening for MTA Police officers at Grand Central–Madison.
But the story of September is not about how many places we visited. It's what those visits made helped us to accomplish. Men received simple PSA blood tests. Conversations about prostate health began. And men and families learned that support is available when they need it.
This is the work Fans for the Cure was created to do. Our healthcare partners, volunteers, and supporters make it possible. Your generosity allows us to keep showing up, reaching men, and making early detection more accessible.
Thank you for standing with us. |

206 Men Screened at Yankee Stadium
|
| |
|
On September 23, 206 men received PSA blood tests at Yankee Stadium during our annual prostate cancer screening with the New York Yankees, Montefiore Einstein, and the American-Italian Cancer Foundation.
Throughout the evening, men stopped to ask questions about prostate health and early detection. Several Fans for the Cure volunteers worked alongside our partners – welcoming and directing fans and helping to keep the lines moving.
Bringing screening and education into a ballpark filled with thousands of fans can make it easier for men to go through with testing rather than put it off.
Our thanks to the Yankees, Montefiore Einstein, the American-Italian Cancer Foundation, and our volunteers for helping 206 men take an important step for their health. |

Early Detection Where Men Gather
|
| |
|
Yankee Stadium was but one part of a month that brought prostate cancer education and early detection directly to men.
In Buffalo and Richmond, Fans for the Cure worked with baseball and healthcare partners to make PSA testing and prostate health information available to fans. Closer to home, we joined the Staten Island FerryHawks and Northwell Urology for screening and education at the ballpark.
At Grand Central–Madison, our partnership with the American-Italian Cancer Foundation brought PSA screening directly to active and retired MTA Police officers.
Different settings, one purpose – early detection must be more accessible. |

Bringing Prostate Health Into the Community
|
| |
|
Much of our outreach efforts for National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month extended beyond the ballpark.
On September 19, Fans for the Cure participated in the Hackensack Meridian Men's Health event in Lodi, New Jersey, sharing information about prostate health and early detection with men and families.
That same day, our New Jersey-based staff represented Fans for the Cure at the Lenny Cathcart House Music Festival in Plainfield, bringing our message to men in a very different community setting.
Both events provided opportunities not only for PSA testing, but for dozens of conversations about prostate cancer and early detection. Wherever men gather, there is an opportunity to make prostate health part of the conversation. |

Taking the Message to Wall Street
|
| |
|
Fans for the Cure opened National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month on September 3 by ringing the Closing Bell at the New York Stock Exchange. By inviting us, the NYSE availed us of one of Wall Street's most visible traditions to call attention to the prevalence of prostate cancer and the importance of early detection.
Founder Ed Randall was joined by 15 supporters on the bell platform, while another 20 friends and supporters gathered on the floor of the Exchange for the close of the trading day.
Following the Closing Bell, Randall and Dr. Mark Stein were interviewed on the NYSE's internal media channel about prostate cancer, early detection, and the work of Fans for the Cure.
For several memorable moments, the Closing Bell helped ring in September with a message that needs to resonate with men and families everywhere. |

|
Throughout September, Catch for the Cure brought one of baseball’s most familiar traditions to communities throughout the region: two people, two gloves, and a baseball.
As part of the program, Ed Randall’s 30 Catches in 30 Days used a game of catch to raise awareness about prostate cancer, PSA testing, and early detection. A catch can be more than throwing a ball around. In September it led to dozens of important conversations about men's health.
Catch for the Cure is partially underwritten by TD Bank, whose support helps us bring this program to communities, families, and men throughout the region. |

The Work Continues in October
|
| |
|
The Harlem Cares! Prostate Cancer Awareness Walk, postponed by the September 26 storm, will now take place on October 3. Also on October 3–4, Fans for the Cure will participate in a Free Community Health Clinic at the John F. Kennedy Recreation Center in Newark, New Jersey.
Our Catch for the Cure at Flowers Park in New Rochelle, postponed from September 27 because of heavy rain, has been rescheduled for Sunday, October 11, from 9 a.m. to noon.
September puts a national spotlight on prostate cancer. Our commitment to reaching men with education, early detection, and support continues year-round. |

You Make Our Work Possible
|
| |
|
This past September showed what support for Fans for the Cure makes possible: more men reached, more opportunities for early detection met, and continued support for men and families facing prostate cancer.
Screenings, community outreach, educational programs, and support groups all depend on the generosity of our supporters. If you believe in this work, we hope you will help us ensure that these programs continue.
Your support helps us reach more men—and be there for them and their families when they need us. |

Next Step: Move Work in Communities with Underserved Health Needs
|
| |
|
As we have come to understand in our more than two decades of serving the prostate cancer community, early testing for this disease leads to better outcomes. We also appreciate that not all men have equal access to adequate medical care. Your donation helps us reach those men most in need. |
