September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month — and for Fans for the Cure, it is always one of our most important months of the year.
On Thursday, September 25, we’ll host our 13th in-stadium screening with the Yankees, our third with Montefiore Einstein. On Tuesday, September 9, we’ll be in Richmond with the Flying Squirrels and University of Virginia Urology for a mobile screening outside the ballpark. Across New Jersey, we will bring our table, volunteers, and PSA tests to Asbury Park, Newark, Plainfield, and several other locations around the state.
In August, we were honored to receive two grants — one from the New York Yankees Foundation to strengthen our outreach and another from ScreenNJ to expand screenings for uninsured men. At nearly every event we attend, a man walks away grateful for his first PSA test — or the first real conversation he has ever had about prostate health. This is why this work matters.
Building on this momentum of Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, we are launching the 200 Club (see below), which will help us fund the staffing, supplies, and outreach that will make our ambitious new initiative of free screenings for the uninsured possible.
On behalf of our Board Chair, Steve Garvey, thank you for being part of this mission. Together, we can make this September a turning point for men and families. |

August was an eventful and rewarding month for Fans for the Cure. A partial list of our community destinations:
- On August 2, we joined the SDA Summit & Community Health Fair at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Robbinsville, NJ. Thank you to the church and Pastor Etienne for their warm welcome.
- On August 9, we were at Wake-Fest in the Bronx, where more than 300 people gathered for music, food, and health awareness.
- On August 19 in Worcester, Peter Jermain of our men’s support group threw out the first pitch at the Red Sox–Jacksonville game. Red Sox great Rico Petrocelli surprised fans and joined his former MLB Network Radio partner, Ed Randall, in the NESN booth to stress the importance of the PSA blood test.

We are launching the 200 Club now to build momentum for Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. Our goal: 200 friends and supporters, each giving $100 (or more).
Be 1 of the 200 supporters of free screenings. By joining today, you’ll help ensure that men at our September events in New Jersey, Richmond, and Yankee Stadium get the early detection and education they deserve.
When we reach 200 members, every supporter will receive a Fans for the Cure khaki hat — a symbol of the teamwork and community at the heart of our mission.
Your gift will help fund the staffing, supplies, and outreach that turn a ballpark table or church health fair into a place where men can be screened, ask questions, and take charge of their health.
A gift of $100 makes you part of the 200 Club. If you can, consider giving $200 in honor of the program’s name — doubling the impact for men and families who need it most. |

This Just In: Ed’s September Catching Streak Continues
|
| |
Our Founder, Ed Randall, has already booked 60 catches for this year’s Catch for the Cure "30 Catches in 30 Days" during Prostate Cancer Awareness Month — well up from last year’s 40+.
Ed was recently heard saying, "Aquí no hay límite de lanzamientos,” ** shortly before calling his health insurer about the co-pay on Tommy John Surgery.
** "There is no pitch count here."
Want to get on Ed’s schedule — or simply want to support the cause? Throw an email to [email protected] to learn more or to schedule a time when you warm up the arm and make your play for prostate cancer awareness. |
