As 2026 begins, Fans for the Cure is focused on the work ahead—and grateful for the community that continues to make it possible.

Our mission remains straightforward: meet men where they are, remove barriers to care, and support men and families as they navigate prostate cancer. A key part of that work this year is the resumption of our Rutgers/ScreenNJ grant, which enables us to provide free PSA screenings to uninsured men in New Jersey. It is essential, practical work—and central to who we are.

Our 2026 calendar is taking shape with community programs at churches, libraries, community centers, and gathering spaces across New York and New Jersey, along with ballpark events in partnership with MLB and MiLB teams nationwide. We will share confirmed dates in our February newsletter and on our website as they are finalized.

We are pleased to confirm that The Boone Squad will return for the 2026 MLB season. In addition to Aaron Boone, a growing group of MLB managers, coaches, and players has already pledged their support. Their leadership and visibility continue to move men’s health conversations forward and encourage men to take a more active role in managing their health. 

Finally, we are thankful to Major League Baseball for inviting Fans for the Cure to participate in All-Star Village in Philadelphia from July 11–14. This national platform will allow us to reach new audiences and reinforce the importance of early detection and informed care.

Fans for the Cure

Fans for the Cure will kick off its February community outreach with Prostate Cancer 101 on Saturday, February 14, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., in Yonkers.

Hosted in partnership with the Yonkers Public Library and First Baptist Church of Yonkers, this free educational program is designed to provide clear, practical information about prostate cancer—what men should know, what questions to ask, and how to navigate next steps if screening or follow-up is recommended. 

The program is open to the public and especially intended for men and families seeking reliable information in a welcoming, community-based setting. Events like this reflect Fans for the Cure’s commitment to meeting people where they are and making men’s health education accessible and approachable.

We are happy to start the year with great news from the baseball world: The Boone Squad will be returning for the 2026 MLB season.

What began as a simple idea—inviting respected leaders in baseball to publicly support men facing prostate cancer—has grown into one of Fans for the Cure’s most meaningful initiatives. When managers, coaches, and players lend their voices, men listen. This matters, especially when the disease is one that too many men are reluctant to discuss.

For 2026, we are already seeing strong early participation, with a growing list of managers, coaches, and players pledging their support. Some are returning voices; others are new to the effort. All share a willingness to stand up for men’s health and help normalize conversations about prostate cancer.

The Boone Squad isn’t about statistics or wins and losses. It’s about leadership, visibility, and using the reach of baseball to encourage men to pay attention to their health—and to seek care when something doesn’t feel right. (Or even when it does as prostate cancer presents without noticeable symptoms in so many cases.)

We look forward to formally sharing more about this year’s Boone Squad as Opening Day approaches.

Much of Fans for the Cure’s important work happens far from the spotlight—often before a man ever becomes a patient.

In 2026, we will resume community partnerships through the Rutgers/ScreenNJ grant, providing free PSA screenings to uninsured men across New Jersey. For many, this is not just a test—it is a first step into the healthcare system.

Uninsured men are less likely to have a primary care physician, less likely to be tested, and more likely to be diagnosed later. By bringing screening directly into communities—through health fairs, partner organizations, and trusted local settings—we help remove barriers to care.

To be clear, a PSA test does not definitively diagnose prostate cancer. But it does help to guide next steps and informed decision-making. Just as important, it opens the door to conversation—about risk, family history, and whether care is needed at all.

This work defines who we are. We don’t just raise awareness; we help men understand what comes next, connect them with trusted resources, and emphasize informed, proportionate care.

On Friday, February 20, Fans for the Cure and the American Cancer Society will mark National Caregivers Day with a virtual panel discussion focused on the emotional side of prostate cancer caregiving, followed by a reception in New York City.

Panelists include Dr. Allison Applebaum (Mount Sinai), Dr. Nicole Stout (American Cancer Society), and Dr. Andy Roth (Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center), who will discuss the emotional toll of caregiving and practical ways to better support care partners.
